JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – People often say, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” While true, words paint pictures in people’s minds, they also inform, inspire, and persuade people in ways that are just as meaningful as other fine arts.
Journalism should be a fine arts credit. Like other fine arts, such as band and choir, Journalism is used to inspire people in similar ways. Like art, journalism inspires people to express themselves. Just as musicians or artists spend hours perfecting their craft, journalists labor for hours on end, perfecting their pieces, as a way to inform others and share their talents.
“The Beak” is a prime example of why Introduction to Journalism should be a fine art. It is filled with in depth articles and creative layouts, and is a piece of art in every sense of the word. That is why we urge JCS administration to make Journalism a fine arts credit.
