EASTPOINTE COUNTRY CLUB – Golf is a game that requires precision and putting and aiming are among the most difficult skills to master. When you first step up to a ball on the putting green, you have to read the line of the ball. This means you have to go behind the ball and get lower to the ground so you are able to see the slope of the green.
When you know the slope of your shot, you will have to take your golf club and align your shot. You will have to adjust your aim based off the slope and how the ball will roll. Before you hit the shot, you will have to adjust your grip on the club. If you do not already have a grip that you use, you will want to put the grip part of the club in the palms of your hands.
Next you have to see where the ball is in your stance. You should have the ball in the middle of your stance but a little towards the front. When you are ready to swing the ball, move the putter straight back with your shoulders, keeping your arms and wrists stable. The length of the backstroke determines the power of your putt. If you need to hit it hard and far, you will need to pull the club back more and have more force in your swing. If you are hitting a short shot and need it to be slow, you should swing and tap the ball.
Before you hit the shot, you can swing a couple practice swings to get the right tempo. Let your shoulders guide the motion while your lower body remains still. Focus on the ball when you hit it and avoid lifting your head to watch the putt. Keep your eyes on the spot where the ball was even after impact. You need to have a solid follow through after you have hit the ball. Have a steady follow through and keep the same pace as when you made contact with the ball.
If your aim and pace is right, you should make the shot and sink a putt.
