JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – This school year, many new teachers have been employed onto the JCS workforce. One teacher in particular is Mrs. Weston, a math teacher from Spanish River High School.
Mrs. Weston has been working in a public school for the last fourteen years, and she came to JCS to grow her faith. Although she has a history degree, she became a math teacher because she wants to change students’ perspectives on the subject, and even help them learn to enjoy it.
Mrs. Weston’s favorite parts of teaching are when students express how she changed their outlook on math, or just spending time with students. Although math is a hard subject where most people find it difficult to stay alert, Mrs. Weston manages to grasp students’ attention with methods such as whiteboard activities, partner work, and giving out “hands on assignments.” Mrs. Weston has found that building up questions and adding new information to them allows students to give them more thought. So far, Mrs. Weston has found that the students at JCS are respectful to the point where managing the classroom is done by the students themselves. “JCS is truly amazing because students are so respectful and work really hard,” said Mrs. Weston. When asked what the greatest challenge of teaching was, she said “The greatest challenge is differentiating the work to meet each student where they are and keeping the class as a whole engaged in the learning.”
Mrs. Weston explained how students are respectful, hardworking, and appreciative here at JCS. She hopes that her career at JCS will continue for many more years. Throughout this school year, she plans on building up her faith in God while also trying to help students with their own relationships. Although it has only been a few weeks since the start of school, Mrs. Weston hopes to become a core leader in the JCS administration.
