JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – Chapel is an essential part to spiritual life for JCS students. It gives them an opportunity to communicate freely with God and dive into the understanding of His word. Former middle school Bible teacher and current Student Publications Director Scott Fields shared his thoughts on the impact of chapel.
Mr. Fields expressed his belief that chapel gives students a chance to be a voice and enhance their spiritual growth. More specifically, he spoke about Spiritual Emphasis Week and its significant impact on students through daily chapel and immersive prayer. Mr. Fields also mentioned how music in the chapel services helps everyone focus and remain in the mindset of worship. Mr. Fields believes that the only way to truly show the effectiveness of these chapels is to see how people’s lives are changed and how it transforms them to be more like Christ. He knows that being a Christian does not mean a person does not experience hardships, but he treasures being able to see students overcoming adversity, facing their own sin, and drawing closer to Christ.
When asked how Chapel could contribute to students’ understanding of issues in relation to their faith, Mr. Fields said, “I think chapel can best do that by all of the teaching being thoroughly grounded in the scriptures, not a whole lot of fluff…” He also explained how he personally encourages students to actively participate in chapel by motivating them to sing, take chapel notes, and read their Bibles.
Chapel has undergone significant changes, and Mr. Fields witnessed the transformation firsthand throughout his past eleven years at JCS. He reminisced about the days when chapel was one big service including both middle and high school students at the same time. He also talked about appreciating its new additions such as student lead services and the spiritual leadership. Overall, Mr. Fields’ insights highlight the vital role chapel plays in nurturing the spiritual lives of JCS students, fostering a community where faith can flourish amidst challenges, and encouraging a deeper connection with God that continues to evolve with each passing year.
