KFC YUM! CENTER – On December 1, NCAA Division One Women’s Volleyball committee released the brackets for the 2024 college volleyball championship. Sixty-four teams are in the tournament every year, thirty-three of them are filled by at-large selection but the rest are filled automatically by thirty-one conferences.
The top seeds of the tournament are Pitt, Nebraska, Louisville, and Penn State. Pitt claimed the one seed by finishing the season 29-1, the best record in D1. Nebraska and Penn State finished with the record 29-2 while Louisville finished 25-5.
Along with the last two years, this year is no different and the top thirty-two teams were seeded nationally in four separate groups/regions. Also, the top seeds are offered the option to host and pairings are pre-determined within the groups, (1-8, 2-7, 3-6, 4-5) although teams from the same conference cannot be paired together throughout the first and second rounds, and that can affect pairings.
Chicago State and UTEP are both teams making their first ever appearances in the tournament, while thirty-nine teams are returning this year after taking part in the 2023 NCAA Championship. Nebraska and Stanford have appeared in all the tournaments but one, but Penn State is the single team to appear in all 44.
The first and second matches will happen December 5-7 and those who advance to regionals(December 12-15). Those who advance out of regionals will continue on to the national semifinals and championship final hosted by the University of Louisville, on December 19 & 22 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville. You can watch The national semifinal matches on ESPN starting at 6:30 p.m. ET, and the championship match on ABC at 3 p.m. ET.
