JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – This was the first Women’s Lacrosse team at JCS since 2012, and they did not disappointment.
Miley Russell was one of the high school students on the JV Women’s Lacrosse team. The team this year consisted of girls from 6th grade through high school. This was Miley’s first time being on a lacrosse team, and all her teammates were so supportive. By doing this she learned how lacrosse takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and concentration.
Miley says, “Lacrosse is definitely not an easy sport.” For any sport it takes a lot of practice and dedication to become better. Miley has also benefited spiritually by being on the team. She says she trusted God in that He wanted her to tryout, so she did. She learned how God has a plan for you and to trust Him. A big quality Miley is taking away from this experience is dedication and constant training. This experience pushed her to her limits and challenged her in many ways. Miley says she will do this sport next year because of how much she enjoyed being on the field. She also made great memories with all her teammates, along with meeting new people. This opportunity helped Miley grow physically, spiritually, and mentally, all for the best.
Being on any team consumes your time. Having school, then going to practice, then getting home and doing homework can be very overwhelming to many students. Miley says being on the lacrosse team made it hard for her to do her homework. She recommends not procrastinating, and if you are too tired at night, wake up a little earlier to finish your homework in the morning. Yes, juggling school and sports can be challenging, but it is a life skill that everyone needs to learn. That is also why being on this lacrosse team has helped Miley so much; it taught her the importance of time management. She said, “I normally had to do my homework during my free time instead of chilling out, and it was difficult; but as an athlete you have to learn how to balance school and sports.”
Miley recommends trying out for lacrosse. You will meet new people, create special bonds, and learn many great life lessons. Some advice Miley would give if you were looking to tryout is to always have good sportsmanship and try your hardest. Attitude is one of the biggest things that can keep people from joining the team, so it is especially important that you have a good attitude and support one another. If you are someone who struggles with the balance of school and sports, Miley recommends not procrastinating, getting up early if you have to, and maybe calling your friends so they can help push you to do your work. This lacrosse team can be beneficial in many ways.
In any sports team, bonds are important. In this lacrosse team there were a lot of mixed ages, but that did not stop them from creating a great bond. Miley says, “Everyone was very encouraging and uplifting no matter the age range, and everyone was positive toward each other.”
Without a good team bond, the outlook on everything would be negative. Having a bad team bond would do nothing but bring people down. Some important qualities to have in a team are encouragement, strength, dedication, and positivity. These will help any team succeed.
The JV Women’s Lacrosse team has those qualities which make them like a family. In any sport, a team bond is crucial to how your games go.
