FATHER LOPEZ HIGH SCHOOL – The JCS Eagles Varsity Football team played their second game of the season on August 23, 2024. They played the Father Lopez High School and the final score was a blowout.
This was the Eagles’ first win and their record is now 1-1. This was a big confidence booster for the upcoming games this season. Especially after barely losing their first game by 8 points. The Eagles knew they could not drive around three and a half hours to lose this game. So they stood by this statement with the final score being 42-0. I asked the only student of JCS at that game, Trace Cook, what his thoughts were from a spectator viewpoint and he said,”It was a good game in the first half and it was pretty boring in the second half because we didn’t score any touchdowns.”
The Eagles were up 42-0 when the game hit halftime. The coaches during halftime made the decision to put all of the backups in, or mostly the younger players in the game for them to get more reps. Even though the game was less interesting in the second half a lot of these younger players got the reps they needed to make the future of JCS Football even better. Some of the players that got in even made good plays, and Trace mentioned one named Matthieu Hessel. The better the younger players get, the more wins will come out of it in the next couple of years.
As I kept interviewing Trace, I asked him who he thought played the best that game. He responded by saying,”I thought Gideon played the best.” This was because he scored multiple touchdowns that game. There were many exciting plays that game, like the many interceptions that happened or a diving touchdown. Overall, the Eagles played a good game and not only was it a confidence booster, but many of the younger players got the playtime they needed to become better players.
