JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, Swimming is a sport that requires a lot of skill, stamina, and practice.
The JCS swim team has been hard at work since the beginning of the year, going to practice at early hours when most of us are probably still sleeping. Courtney Grady has been swimming at JCS for 4 years. She finds swimming a very rewarding sport. “The most rewarding thing about swimming is having such great teammates, and a great team but also when you get to drop time because of all the hard work you have to put into getting faster in the sport,” says Courtney. Getting faster in swimming is quite difficult as it takes a lot of practice. Swimming has also been known to be rewarding due to the number of calories burned in the sport. Swimming, overall, burns the most calories out of all sports.
Swimming at JCS has some differences above swimming at other clubs. The JCS Swim team was called a “Swim Family” by Courtney Grady, whereas she said swimming out of JCS is more independent and everyone is working on improving themselves rather than working to improve as a team. Courtney’s favorite thing about swim is doing relays. She says, “I think relays are a lot of fun because we have to depend on each other.”
All the practice ends up paying off for the swimmers on the team once they get a top spot at a swim meet. The hardest part about competing is “not getting too anxious before a race,” says Courtney. Though the early mornings and keeping up in races may be tough, swimming at JCS is very rewarding in all senses and allows people to get better at swimming and be a part of a fulfilling sport.
