JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – The Middle School House Sorting Ceremony occurred on August 26, 2022.
Mr. Rob Andrassy created this House System for the students to experience belonging, build character, renew school culture, and enjoy healthy competition. He put his heart and soul into the House System, going back and forth with a graphic designer for weeks just to have the crests for the houses. The House System calls teachers and students to walk closer with the Lord. “It also challenges them to live with purpose, and become all that the Imago Dei is meant to be,” says Andrassy. The House System is intended to cultivate belonging and a love of truth and values.
The names for each house were thought of and designed by Mr. Andrassy and Mrs. Flesch. “It took almost 9 months of preparation,” says Andrassy. The name Veritas is the Latin word for Truth, the word Agape means Eternal Love, the name Humilitas is Latin for Humility, and the name Justelion took him a while of planning. He couldn’t decide on a cool name – so he took the word Justice and Lion to create Justelion.
Many people think the house sorting system and idea came from the Harry Potter series. Surprisingly, though, it actually came from the idea of boarding schools in England. House Headmaster Andrassy often says, “It’s a home away from home, or a family away from family – where we can pursue the highest beauties of life, the greatest being God Himself.”
With everything that went into this – hand drawn designs, thoughtful ideas, student leadership opportunities and approximately 9 months of planning – this was an amazing idea on Mr. Andrassy’s part. The House System, in my opinion, is a representation of the dedication that Mr. Andrassy has toward this school. The House Sorting Ceremony went off perfectly. I talked to Mr. Hamilton on the day of the Sorting Ceremony, and he said that he loved it. I also spoke to multiple students that were in 8th grade, and they also said they loved this event.
