JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – Middle School Cheer is thriving this year! Middle School Cheer is rocking it this year with their amazing cheers, chants, and stunts! Cheer is a very overlooked sport, so we are here to give it the appreciation it deserves! To get a closer look, I interviewed members of the Middle School Cheer team.
Seventh grader Grace Klingseisen who is on the cheer team said she likes performing and dancing in front of people, so that helped her decide she wanted to do cheer. When asked what inspired her to join cheer she said, “My friends inspired me to do cheer along with the fact that I enjoy dancing.” Grace also said, “During cheer, I have learned how to do a back walkover, front walkover, and lots of cheer jumps.” Cheer teaches you lots of exciting skills as well as more important skills like teamwork. “Cheer is all about teamwork, everything you do is with your team. You can’t have a good team without teamwork, for example, you can’t do a stunt without your base, flyer, and back spot.” Cheer is a sport that relies a lot on teamwork, so it is a skill you have to learn quickly. We already know Cheer is an amazing sport, but this is further proof. When asked to describe cheer in five words, Grace said, “Fun, energetic, strong, tiring, and loud.” Although cheer may be tiring, it is an incredible sport that requires strength, energy, teamwork, and diligence.
I also interviewed seventh grader Scarlette Hare who is a member of the Middle School Cheer team as well! This is Scarlette’s second year doing cheer, and she has all good things to say about it! Scarlette’s favorite part about Middle School Cheer is the stunts. Scarlette said, “I love stunts! I’m a flyer, so I get to be in the air. I think being a flyer is the most fun position in cheer! I get to be propelled into the air, and that’s always fun!” Scarlette is a flyer so she has to have really good balance. Scarlette was inspired to do cheer because she had a gymnastics background, so all of the skills came easy to her! Scarlette says Cheer has taught her to never give up, and not to get upset when you mess up, because that’s how you learn. Scarlette loves cheer and plans to continue to do it in the future!
In conclusion, Cheer is an amazing sport. You learn so many important skills like teamwork, diligence, strength, hard work, and many more. Students are also learning to glorify God through everything they do, and we are really seeing that with our Middle School Cheer team. Cheer is a sport that is very overlooked, so I am very glad that this article is giving it the recognition and appreciation that it very much deserves. Overall, we are incredibly fortunate to have such an amazing Cheer team at Jupiter Christian!
