JUPITER HIGH SCHOOL – On January 30th six of the choir students – Katelyn Tirado, Breelyn Tirado, Tucker Johnson, Ava Camejo, Paula Fabrega, and Ellen Barbre – performed at Jupiter High School’s stage for the annual District Honor Choir event. District Honor Choir (DHC) is a yearly event that offers several selected students from all over the Florida district the chance to unite through song.
To go to DHC the students must be selected by their director and only a few from each school are picked. The students receive six pieces of music to learn by themselves and then later perform with the group. Tucker Johnson says, “The song ‘My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord’ is the most challenging yet exhilarating song I have ever learned!”
The names of the songs the students had to learn were: “Gloria”, “Shannondoah”, “Pride”, “My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord”, “Why We Sing”, and “Reimo Le Moga.” The concert totaled 40 minutes and included soloist opportunities. Junior Paula Fabrega achieved a solo in the closing song of the program, “Why We Sing.” Her beautiful voice charmed the audience and brought joy to the song. The students spent the day prior to the concert at a nine-hour rehearsal at Jupiter High School. In their rehearsal, the girls practiced their pieces time and time again in sectionals, and with the whole group. Senior Breelyn Tirado said, “I have never had a rehearsal this long, but I would not choose a better group of girls to do it alongside.”
The overall experience is one the girls will never forget. They bring pride to Jupiter Christian School for being selected to sing at this event. The same girls will perform the same songs with the same group again in April at the Kravis Center for the Spotlight Event. The Spotlight Event only happens once every other year and is the opportunity of a lifetime!
