LEE UNIVERSITY TENNESSEE – R.E.A.C.H Week at Jupiter Christian School is a time for spiritual and academic enrichment. This year for my R.E.A.C.H Week activity I chose to do an independent study. Through approval by Mr.Wade as well as several university professors, I was able to visit my cousin at Christian school Lee University to get the experience of a week in the life of a college student. I was able to have the full experience by attending classes, participating in activities, attending athletic games, and interacting with the students.
Lee University offers a variety of courses for whichever major a student decides to pursue. Among these is psychology. My cousin, being one of the students choosing to pursue this major, brought me along with her to these classes. I learned about a variety of different concepts with classes covering childhood disorders and abnormal psychology. These classes covered concepts such as OCD, anxiety, therapy, and different therapeutic approaches to better engage with patients. These classes were specifically designed for the help of children focusing more on child psych than generalized psych.
I very much enjoyed these classes seeing as they were thorough and presented by professionals who were actively working in the field. The professors shared their experiences with past and current patients and went in depth on some of their most significant cases. They also disclosed advice for dealing with different types of patients and gave me a good look into the field of psychology.
Along with the academic side, I was able to attend a nearby church during the week and get a glimpse into the community of believers in Cleveland, TN. It was a welcoming community and I got the opportunity to listen to a pastor’s message which was different to what my typical hometown pastor preaches. I believe this gave me the ability to expand my horizons and see how the Lord works in different ways in various places.
Overall, I had a positive experience at Lee University as I enjoyed the interactions with the students and professors as well as the enriching content within their classes the days I got the privilege to attend.
