JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, November 15, 2023 – Sophomore, Sebastian Cabrera, shares his family’s unique traditions during Thanksgiving.
Sebastian’s mother is from Columbia and his father is from the Dominican Republic. So, when it comes to the holidays they celebrate in a little more of a unique way and make some unique foods. Sebastian shared that his mother cooks a lot of Hispanic dishes, and the family implements these dishes into many of their holiday traditions.
Sebastian said that his family meets at his family’s house or his aunt’s house for an intimate family dinner. The family eats an earlier dinner so that afterward they can spend time together and play games. They have done this for years and have such a fun time with their family and create many memories. For food, the Cabrera family puts together a big meal for the group. The meal consists of traditional Thanksgiving foods and some Hispanic foods. “My family makes a meal that is mixed with some traditional Thanksgiving food and some Hispanic foods, like empanadas.” Sebastian’s favorite traditional Thanksgiving food is mashed potatoes and gravy. Sebastian’s favorite Hispanic food that his mother makes is her empanadas. “She makes them every year for Thanksgiving.”
Sebastian said that he is very thankful for the many memories that he has formed with his family during Thanksgiving. He will cherish these memories forever. Sebastian explained that he loves spending time with his family during Thanksgiving and that it is the most important part of the holiday. He also loves to help his mother and aunt cook and spend time with his cousins and play games. Thanksgiving is also important to him because he gets to express his gratitude and what he is thankful for, which is his family.
Hopefully, everyone had a great Thanksgiving break and had a great time with family and loved ones.
