JUPITER, FL – Susan Boggess, Beach Boggess’ grandmother, shares about her favorite Christmas recipes.
Christmas season often brings around the most delicious foods. Such as cookies, pastries, breads, snacks, soups, and all sorts of meals. Susan Boggess shared that her favorite Christmas time recipes are her famous Buckeyes and Chex Mix. Many people love these treats, and she enjoys making them.
To begin, Susan loves to make Buckeyes. Buckeyes are often made in Ohio. She enjoys making this treat because it is a tradition that originated from when she lived in Ohio. The snack resembles a Buckeye nut that grows from the state tree. “I have had friends say that they are the best Buckeyes they have ever tasted,” said Mrs. Boggess. The treat is a sweet peanut butter ball covered in rich chocolate. They taste so delicious paired with a glass of milk. Susan says that one particular ingredient makes all the difference. “In the Buckeyes, I use very good quality peanut butter,” claims Mrs. Boggess. Whatever she may throw in the bowl, it sure makes this treat taste incredible.
Next, Mrs. Boggess enjoys making her famous Chex Mix. This snack is only made once a year around Christmas time. It is long awaited all year because it is so tasty. Susan’s Chex Mix is a mix of Chex, Goldfish, pretzels, nuts, and a few other items. The different flavors mixed together is what makes it taste so good. Susan says, “All of the seasoning, salt, and oil is what makes the Chex Mix.” She makes a huge batch of the mixture in the beginning of the season. She continues rationing it out to her family, neighbors, and parties till Christmas. This holiday snack has been around for quite some time. “This is a very old recipe given to me by a friend back in 1985,” said Susan. The Chex Mix has managed to stay in the family for many years and will not be going away any time soon.
Finally, as Susan does care about these recipes, something else is more important to her. She thinks that the family and friends she gets to share these treats with is what brings her the most joy. Mrs. Boggess says, “I truly enjoy spending time with my family.” The holidays are for being with loved ones and for giving. By sharing these treats, they get to experience joy together. It is a different story when people start asking for the recipe for these treats. “I like to keep these as a ‘Secret family recipe,’” said Susan. She prefers to keep these recipes as a secret, but if someone wanted it bad enough, she would consider sharing it. It might take some pleading though!
All in all, Mrs. Boggess loves making Christmas treats. Her favorite to make are her famous Buckeyes and Chex Mix. Anybody who tries them instantly falls in love with them. She loves to spend her holidays with her family and friends, which is truly the best part of Christmas.
