MINNESOTA, February 1, 2024 – Winter in Minnesota looks a lot different than winter in Florida! In Florida, you spend your time in the sun, grilling out, going to the beach, going on walks, etc. And Florida still has outdoor sports in season during the winter. In Minnesota, it is very cold and snowy, you stay in your warm home, there are less sports happening, and did I say it is cold? Let’s just say Florida’s winter weather is a dream for Minnesotans!

Right now, in Minnesota the most popular sport is finally in season! Minnesota has always been known as the “hockey state” and it is for good reason. Every year over 135,000 fans gather at the Xcel Energy Center for the Minnesota Boys State Hockey Tournament. The tournament is very popular amongst Minnesotans and it also attracts fans from other areas. The tournament even gets recognition from fans around the US on social media! Overall, the Minnesota Boys State Hockey Tournament is a very fun event and I hope that everyone gets to enjoy watching the games!

Gabriella Mahlman is one of the student reporters here at Jupiter Christian’s "The Beak." Gabriella, also known as Ella, is a junior and will graduate in 2025. Gabriella moved here from Minnesota after living there her whole life. Gabriella’s favorite and only sport is volleyball. She has played since she was in kindergarten and loves it. She plays for JCS and Side Out Volleyball Club. Gabriella loves sports and watches lots of volleyball and football. Her favorite is to watch college sports. Gabriella’s favorite subject to report on for "The Beak" is sports along with student life. Gabriella’s favorite vacation spot is Punta Cana, as she loved the beaches there and went snorkeling. Gabriella's favorite Bible verse is Psalm 46:5, “God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.”
