WARSAW, POLAND – On May 3rd, 1791, the Polish constitution was signed granting the people freedom of speech and religion.
The constitution was signed in Warsaw, Poland, and was a big part of Poland becoming an independent nation from countries such as Russia. It was one of the first signed constitutions in Europe and second in the world right after the United States.
This memorable holiday is celebrated each year through numerous parades, food, and concerts featuring Polish music. Throughout this holiday, many Poles hang up Polish flags on their homes and in the cities to represent the freedoms that they were granted on that day.
Many government officials also gather in Warsaw, where they hold ceremonies in remembrance of the Constitution. This holiday has a special meaning for Poles, a meaning of freedom and gratitude, one that will last for many years to come.
