JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – Sports are more than simply games. They are the center of many strong communities throughout schools. Sports connect people together, build strong characteristics within students, and improve fitness levels in a unique way that cannot be replicated by any other activities.
When athletes come together to represent their school it creates strong bonds within the community. The simple collectiveness between the players and fans that is built through team sports can create positive impacts, as well as create a safe and supportive space for them.
Through sports, student-athletes also learn about the importance of discipline, leadership, and communication. Without these qualities, teams cannot properly function together. Learning to hone these characteristics is key because it nurtures individuals into strong, leading, and disciplined people beyond high school.
Through school sports, students will also improve their fitness levels. By having daily practices after school, students create a consistent workout routine. This can reduce the likelihood of illnesses later in life. Sports not only improve physical fitness levels, but also cognitive fitness. Students in sports learn how to solve problems quickly and sharpen their focus.
The communities built through sports are like no other. Sports communities are some of the most encouraging communities that can be built. The Bible touches upon the idea of a strong community multiple times. Proverbs 27:17 (NIV) states, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” The friendships created through sports are supportive and strong, proving that sports are more than simply games and competitions.
