Local Outreach Trip

Local+Outreach+Trip

FEEDING SOUTH FLORIDA – Mrs. Bloomfield takes a group of students to different local facilities for community work.

R.E.A.C.H Week is to reflect, enrich, affirm, create, and hear in a creative hands-on learning environment that honors Christ. Each year the students are given an opportunity to explore the community on different trips.

This year, I participated in Mrs. Bloomfield’s Local Outreach trip where we helped gather items for the less fortunate. At Feeding South Florida we inspected, sorted, and packaged food to donate to residents in the community.

While at Feeding South Florida, we were taught that working together will always get the job done. Each of us had a different job to do to get the food boxed and well-organized. In the warehouse, there were people that were runners, expiration date checkers, sorters, and those who packaged all the food.

If we did not work together, we would not be able to get the job done fast enough. While checking the expiration dates, we were making sure that the food was good enough to send out to the people in the community.

The runners would then take the boxes that we had checked, and they would give them to the people who were packaging the food. The people packaging would then organize the boxes and put lids on the boxes.

After the food was well placed and packaged, the cycle would then continue. We were going fast with this never-ending cycle. With the help of others, we were able to pass the number of pounds that we originally set out to get for a total of 5,506 pounds of food and 4,585 total meals.

Feeding South Florida gave each of us a taste of what working in a warehouse would look like. We were each given the experience to learn something new and even help the community of Boynton Beach. These foods were donated to help others, and this truly meant a lot to help those in need.

R.E.A.C.H. Week helped us understand the word community better and put it in a better perspective. R.E.A.C.H. Week has taught Illiana Sacerio that, “Even the little things make a big difference in your community. It is important to never belittle yourself and say what you’re doing doesn’t matter. It may be a small act when you are helping piece by piece, but you are restoring the hope in your community that there are good people out there who still want to help. R.E.A.C.H. Week taught me that our community is a big part of who we are, and we should always want to help and give back.”

R.E.A.C.H. Week has also taught another student, Josiah Joseph, that, “All it takes is one good act of kindness to change someone’s circumstances in life.”

In all, R.E.A.C.H. Week is a great way to connect with all of your friends and have a life-changing experience.
