JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – It’s TIME! Sure there are still 47 days until Christmas but if you think about it, that’s only 7 more Fridays. I spoke to Brooklyn Carley about when she and her family decorate their home for the holidays. If you’re wondering why they decorate so early, it’s because they love Christmas so much.
Speaking of which, Brooklyn states, “We usually decorate the weekend of November 1, like after Halloween.” They really like decorating early because they get “…two whole months of Christmas stuff.” And they’re not the only ones decorating this early. In fact, 7th grade English teacher Ms. Herrera and her homeroom decorated in class on November 1st.
Along with decorating early, Brooklyn shares many Christmas/Holiday traditions with her family. For example, she shared, “For Thanksgiving dinner every year we go out to Hibachi like in the Christmas Story.” And when I asked her what her favorite Christmas tradition was she said, “Most of my favorite Christmas traditions are food. My favorite one is that on Christmas morning my dad always makes monkey bread. You might not know what monkey bread is, but it’s really good.”
As for how long the Carleys have been decorating this early, Brooklyn states, “Not really since I’ve been little. We moved into Jupiter a couple years ago because we used to live in Palm Beach Gardens. I guess we started then, and also we all got a little bit older and we like Christmas more.” Brooklyn also says that she likes to keep the decorations up but eventually after New Years her mom makes them begin taking them down.
Brooklyn also went on to say that they mainly go all out for Christmas and not the other holidays, and that her favorite holiday is “Christmas and Thanksgiving, but Christmas because we get to decorate and stuff and I have a lot of traditions with my family.” That about sums up the story of one of the early decorating families at JCS.
