JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – 8th grade English and Bible teacher Mrs. McClung was interviewed about her experience in teaching Bible to her students.
Mrs. McClung enjoys teaching Bible. She loves to share the gospel, what she loves, and as well her story. She has been teaching Bible for about 4 years ever since she came to JCS. Her style of teaching is friendly and more leading so her students can actually come up with stuff instead of just lecturing.
One of the challenging parts about teaching Bible for Mrs. McClung is that since her speciality is English she feels at times intimidated. “I’m not a Bible scholar. I’m just like you guys in a way.” The most rewarding part for her as a Bible teacher is that she gets to learn things she doesn’t know already. She really wants her students to open up and share their stories as well and what Bible verses speak to them.
McClung’s favorite Bible lesson to teach her students would be the Proverbs. “The Proverbs are like the book of instructions, what to do, how to live your life, how to behave.” She enjoys this unit because it’s not always easy to pick the right decisions in life. Mrs. McClung would say that the Bible character that inspires her the most is “…Jesus obviously – He’s the main one, but if I had to pick one it would be Ruth because of how kindhearted she was and how she loved everyone around her and the sacrifices she made.”
Lastly, the main thing she wants her students to get out of the Bible class is “…a stronger relationship with God or a relationship with him if they don’t have one.” She thinks that is the most important part. She wants her students to be closer with Him.
To conclude, Mrs. McClung is great at her teaching and is dedicated to making sure her students are getting the most out of her Bible class to form a better relationship with God.
