SAUDI ARABIA – Since 1979, the Dakar Rally, also known as the Paris-Dakar Rally has been held annually. The Dakar Rally is a rallying event which allows motorbike, car, quad, and truck drivers to prove their skills in a nonconventional race.
The Dakar Rally has been known as the world’s toughest race because most of the race takes place over unconquered terrain, dunes, and hidden rocks. Often there is no road or path for hundreds of miles, leaving drivers having to make their own path. The rallying event hosts one stage every two days. These stages consist of an average of 330 miles of terrain. Since its start in 1979, the Dakar Rally has had 78 competitors die.
In total, the Dakar Rally is one of the biggest challenges a driver can take part in. The brutal desert has taken a lot from many drivers, but the reward the race offers makes the journey worth it.
