WASHINGTON, DC – Every student got a chance to extend their knowledge during R.E.A.C.H. Week, from the arts to the outdoors. Meanwhile, for my experience, I chose to learn in Washington, DC.
The students on the Washington, D.C. R.E.A.C.H. Week trip went to multiple memorials, the houses of well-known leaders, and even the Capitol building! “My favorite thing was probably all of the memorials, and I really liked meeting Brian Mast,” Livia Dunnigan, a 7th grader on the trip said. Our R.E.A.C.H. trip got the opportunity to meet our representative for the House of Representatives at the Capitol building and even took a photo. We also went to memorials including the World War I Memorial, the World War II Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, and the Iwo Jima Memorial.
Though there are preferences, there were some people who just enjoyed the experience. One of these people is Maylee Mize. “I liked all of it,” she said. We had a diverse number of experiences, from the Ford’s Theatre, where Abraham Lincoln was shot, and even the FBI Experience, which is so exclusive that we had to be cleared by our representative in the Senate. One of the coolest sights to see though was the book tower you could see coming out of Ford’s Theatre, that has a metal tower representing every book ever written about Lincoln.
One of my favorite parts of the experience was learning about the biblical integration of our government and the Capitol itself. We learned how most all the founding fathers were Christian, and how that affected their decisions. Our tour guide often pointed out the Christian mentions, such as the tip of the Washington Monument, which says “Lous Dao,” which means “The glory to God.” We also went to the Museum of the Bible, and we really observed the government and the Capitol from a biblical worldview throughout the trip.
The Washington, D.C. R.E.A.C.H. Week experience was amazing, and I never want to forget it.
