JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – After a year without a softball team, JCS is finally bringing the sport back! The team had to take a break because there wasn’t a coach, but this year everything is changing. Our amazing art teacher, Ms. Banas, has stepped up to be the new head coach, and she’s getting help from a former Miami Marlins baseball player! Students are excited to see the Eagles back on the field and can’t wait to cheer them on.
One of the players joining the team is Savannah LaRue, who has been playing softball since she was just two years old! Savannah said her mom played softball in middle and high school and wanted her daughter to enjoy the game just as much. Clearly, Savannah has, because she now has 11 years of experience and brings a lot of skill and energy to the team.
When I asked Savannah about her favorite softball memory, she said, “When it was half my team’s last game because they were moving up to the high school team, and it was a really close game, but we won!” She explained that the feeling of winning is amazing and that she is excited to share that excitement with her new teammates.
Savannah hopes to be the pitcher this year, which is the position she plays on her travel team. If she can’t pitch, she’s happy to play second base or outfield anywhere the team needs her. Her toughest competition so far was “The World Series!” which shows just how serious she is about the game.
Savannah ended our interview with a big smile and a message for her school: “You should try out and Go Eagles!”
With dedicated coaches, talented players like Savannah, and a team ready to work together, this season is shaping up to be exciting. The Eagles are ready to play hard, have fun, and make this comeback season one to remember!
