One Set Closer to Success

JUPITER CHRISTIAN SCHOOL – August 20, 2023 – I talked to JCS’s new transfer from Jupiter High School, Leilani Ramos. Leilani is a class of 2026 setter for JCS’s Varsity Volleyball team, and she is ready to lead the team to State.

Leilani started playing volleyball at seven years old, when her mom was coaching a junior’s team. Leilani fell in love with volleyball and started that next season when she was eight. Leilani’s mom was very experienced with volleyball and pushed her to get better over the years. Leilani claims that, “She is someone I can always talk to about strategy or the game, and I feel like that gives me an advantage over girls who don’t have volleyball parents.”

Leilani and I talked about what excites her about the game of volleyball so much. “What excites me about volleyball is the speed of the game and how it can be anybody’s game once you step out onto the court.”

Leilani also plays club volleyball during the winter.  She started when she was in fifth grade, and her mom coached. She has always played for Jupiter Elite, a local volleyball club. Now, Leilani is playing at Tribe, a highly sought after club located in Pompano, Florida. Leilani recalls her first memorable moment she had when she started playing volleyball. Her middle school team had won county champions after a long and hard fight!

We also talked about what her goals were for the JCS Varsity Volleyball team. Overall, her goal is to go to the State tournament. She thinks that the team is very capable of making it. But it will not be easy. There is one team in particular that is going to be the team to beat to make it that far. “There is going to be one hard team to beat, but once we beat them and get into the final four, we will be good,” claimed Leilani.

Leilani and I talked about how she sees her future in volleyball. Leilani wants to play college volleyball, whether that is power five or division one. Leilani is an extremely competitive and smart player, and I can see this vision coming to reality.

This season, the Lady Eagles Varsity Volleyball team has a highly competitive schedule, and they play many talented teams, like Jupiter High and King’s. Make sure you come and support your Lady Eagles and help to encourage them to get to their goal of going to the States!
